Beginning of the 2011/2012 edition
First week: doctoral symposium | Start of classes: 2011-09-19 | Late arrivals: recommendations
First week
The first week (2011-09-12) of the 2011/2012 edition of MAP-i is filled by the 4th MAP-i Doctoral Symposium which all students, already enrolled or preparing for registration, are expected to attend.
Start of classes
Classes are starting on 2011-09-19. You can find the timetable in a compact version or in the information system SIGARRA to get more detail. You are urged to complete your registration as soon as possible, in any case not after September, 16th, so classes can start properly. Courses with too few students may be suspended. To choose the courses more suitable to you, please see the course descriptions.
Late arrivals
The recommendations for international students who may arrive late due to delays in the visa process are the following:
- Students arriving until 2011-10-16. We are asking the professors of the several subjects to make any digital support study materials remotely available to registered students who are arriving later, so the students can at least follow what's happening in the first weeks of each course.
- Students arriving until 2011-11-13. These students will loose the first trimester. They may still be able to catch up the Seminar as it lasts the whole first semester, if they work hard. The consequences of loosing the two courses of the first semester (10 credits) but doing well on the second trimester and the second semester are that they are able to prepare the thesis proposal, present it at the Doctoral Symposium on September 2012, and start the research phase then, while at the same time following the two remaining courses on the first trimester 2012/2013. Exceptionally, in order to let these students partially recover the delay, they will be allowed to register in 3 courses on the 2nd trimester 2011/2012, thus leaving just one course for 2012/2013.
- Students arriving until 2012-02-21. These students will loose the whole first semester. They are allowed to work on the thesis proposal and follow the other courses in the second semester, but they will be able to present their thesis proposal and start the research phase only on February 2013, after they complete the first semester courses. These students may choose to register as part-time students in 2011/2012 as they are enrolling only in 30 credits.
